The project of the National Association of Small and Medium-Sized Entrepreneurs aims to stimulate an entrepreneurial mindset among the citizens in Northwestern Bulgaria and empower them to start their own businesses. This is the EU’s poorest region, with the highest unemployment rate in the country, which is why entrepreneurship is a good option for personal and professional development there. Business Academy for Starting Entrepreneurs (BASE) is a thirteen-week interactive training program. Mentors in the program impart practical knowledge and demonstrate what it takes to turn an idea into a working business. At the end of the program, participants prepare business plans and take part in a competition. The best business ideas are awarded a prize supporting their development.
