Thirty Outstanding Bulgarian Students Selected to Participate in a Summer Entrepreneurship Program in the U.S. in 2011

The America for Bulgaria Foundation (ABF) and the Institute of International Education (IIE) in New York are happy to announce the end of a tough competition for selecting 30 exceptional Bulgarian students to participate in the 2011 Summer Entrepreneurship Program in the United States.

For a second year in a row, 30 Bulgarian students from different universities in Bulgaria will have the opportunity to undergo intensive entrepreneurship training, business education, and leadership development in the United States. The initiative is part of the ABF’s signature program – Bulgarian Young Leaders Program (BYLP), which aims to identify Bulgarian undergraduate students of exceptional caliber as well as promising civil service professionals and provide them with unique business and leadership training in the United States.

The BYLP incorporates three major components: Summer Entrepreneurship Program, U.S. Academic Immersion Program, and Junior Justice Professionals Training Program.

The Summer Entrepreneurship Program (SEP) provides short-term, non-degree experiential learning opportunity to Bulgarian students from all accredited universities in Bulgaria. During five weeks (July 1- August 5, 2011) of intensive entrepreneurship training, business education, and leadership development, participants will have the opportunity to study at leading U.S. business schools where they will interact and network with U.S. executives, entrepreneurs, and students. In addition, because SEP is designed as a mini-MBA program, participants will be developing life plans and business plans. These plans will serve as blueprints for how students will apply what they have learned upon their return to Bulgaria.

The jury, comprised of Ms. Svetla Kostadinova, Executive Director of the Institute of Market Economics; Mr. Kiril Petkov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Center for Economic Strategies and Competitiveness; Mr. George Sharkov, Manager of the European Software Institute; and Mr. Andrey Genev, CFA, Investment Manager at the Bulgarian American Credit Bank carefully reviewed all 142 applications and selected the following participants:
