Dear Friends,

This year took us all over Bulgaria – often off the main roads, toward places that don’t shout for attention. What mattered most, though, wasn’t where we went. It was who we met.

We met people who quietly make their communities better every day – with care, patience, and a strong sense that this work belongs to all of us. Their energy carried us forward. It kept us curious, willing to slow down, and committed to telling stories that don’t rush themselves. We hope you feel some of that spirit in this issue.

And since the end of the year isn’t exactly generous with reading time, we tried something new. You can now listen to our stories. If you can’t stop to read – just press play and keep going.

Happy listening! 🎧

What does the Northwest sound like?

10 Things Four Days in Northwest Bulgaria Taught Us

The Northwest isn’t about ticking sights off a list. It’s about slowing down, staying curious, and letting places reveal themselves. In this travelogue, we look back on four days among wild landscapes, unexpected structures, and people who feel perfectly at home being themselves. And now, the story has a voice.

The Bulgaria you fall for

When The New York Times published its list of 52 places worth visiting in 2025, Bulgaria was one of them. We took that as an invitation – and a challenge. Because here, 52 is just a starting point. This country holds far more places than that: places you don’t simply pass through, but stay with you.

That’s how our series 52 Ways to Fall in Love with Bulgaria began. Week by week, it led us off the main roads – to rivers and mountains, small towns and wild corners – and to the people who look after them with care and quiet pride.

Thank you for walking this path with us. Together we watched birds in Srebarna, lingered over Danube sunsets, paddled the Yantra, traced the outlines of old fortresses, biked through the Northwest, and followed mountain trails where time seems to slow down.

For us at the America for Bulgaria Foundation, this isn’t just a series. We’ll keep promoting the people and initiatives shaping nature and cultural tourism in Northern Bulgaria – so these places aren’t just stops along the way, but places with a future and stories that continue.

If you’d like to revisit all 52+ ideas, you’ll find them via the #52WaysToFallInLoveWithBulgaria and #52НачинаДаСеВлюбитеВБългария hashtags on Facebook, as well as on Instagram and LinkedIn.
