ABF Announces 2012-2013 Educational Programs for Talented Bulgarian Students in the US

For a third year in a row, the America for Bulgaria Foundation offers scholarship and training opportunities in the United States for talented Bulgarian students. As part of the Bulgarian Young Leaders Program, administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE), the Foundation will give the opportunity to Bulgarian students to compete for the following two programs:

U.S. Academic Immersion Program (USAIP)

The U.S. Academic Immersion Program (USAIP) is a one-year undergraduate level, non-degree scholarship program which places 20 Bulgarian students in select U.S. colleges and universities during the 2012-2013 academic year.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be Bulgarian citizens who currently reside and study in Bulgaria.
  • Applicants must be full-time regular students at an accredited university.
  • Applicants must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study at an accredited university in Bulgaria before applying (applications take place in second or third year of study). Find out if your university is accredited.
  • Applicants must have a proven record of high academic achievement.
  • Applicants may be in any field of study provided their English language skills are strong enough to enable them to pursue their academic program in the U.S.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in global citizenship, while also demonstrating a strong interest in giving back to their country and community.

Summer Entrepreneurship Program (SEP)

The Summer Entrepreneurship Program provides short-term, non-degree experiential learning opportunity for 30 undergraduate students from all accredited universities in Bulgaria. In the course of five weeks of entrepreneurship training and leadership development, selected students will have the opportunity to study at leading U.S. universities and interact with U.S. executives, entrepreneurs, and American peers. At the end of the training, the participants will develop business plans for projects to be implemented in Bulgaria.

Eligibility

The 30 participants in the program will be competitively selected among applicants who meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be Bulgarian citizens who currently reside and study in Bulgaria.
  • Applicants must be full-time regular students at an accredited university.
  • Applicants must have completed at least two years of undergraduate study at an accredited university in Bulgaria before participating in SEP. Graduate students currently pursuing a master’s degree are also eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must have a proven record of high academic achievement.
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate leadership skills and an aptitude for entrepreneurship.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in global citizenship while also demonstrating a strong interest in giving back to their country and community.

Program Benefits

Selected applicants will spend five weeks in the U.S. for entrepreneurship training, which will cover:

  • Travel to and from the U.S.;
  • Travel inside the U.S.;
  • Health insurance coverage for the duration of the program;
  • Assistance with U.S. visa application;
  • Tuition fees for all modules;
  • Accommodations and meals.
