You are a bright 17-year-old and have ideas you want to develop, but you don’t know how or don’t have the right contacts. Or you are an early- to mid-career professional passionate about your work and eager to share your knowledge. ABLE Mentor is a bridge between the two.
Launched in 2013 with ABF support, ABLE Mentor is a mentoring program of the Association of Bulgarian Leaders and Entrepreneurs (ABLE), which allows high school juniors and seniors to realize their ideas under the guidance of experienced professionals and academics. Paired with an individual mentor, students tackle real challenges in business, the arts, social activities, and personal development. Their mentors’ experience, knowledge, and professional networks support them in the process. A healthy eating blog, a film tribute to Vitosha Mountain, a DNA study, and a mentorship platform for orphans are some of the projects that have emerged from the successful collaboration between mentors and students.
Over three months, students learn to set goals, make plans to achieve them, and follow through while also building their CVs. The reward for mentors is the contact with brilliant youngsters and the chance to contribute to their country’s well-being by passing on their knowledge and skills to the next generation.
In six years, the program has helped support over 400 student projects in nine Bulgarian cities.
