Today (March 7, 2017) at the National Polytechnic Museum the start of this year’s edition of the #ATTHEMUSEUM award, initiated by America for Bulgaria Foundation was announced. The #ATTHEMUSEUM award was established last year with an aim to encourage museums, galleries and cultural organizations from all over the country to become more welcoming places for children, students and families. Starting today, any cultural organization that has interest can apply.
“Bulgaria is a country with an exceptionally rich cultural and historical heritage, but only a small number of museums has the ability to show it and present in a way which is understandable for children. We would like to have families spend more time together and learn new things. This is why we created this initiative – the award. The application process is easy – just tell us your story and ideas!” said Nadya Zaharieva, Arts & Culture Director at America for Bulgaria Foundation.
Madlen Yaneva, Public Relations Director at the National Polytechnic Museum, last year’s winner of the award in the Best Work with Families category, shared that the award has given them wings. For the past year, more than 2,000 children and families participated in their Family Saturday in the Museum initiative. “The museum is the place where adventures happen. The award gave us the opportunity to receive public recognition. I advise you to apply!” added Madlen.
Eligible to participate are only legal entities: state, municipal, departmental and private museums, galleries, zoos, botanical gardens and other cultural organizations and non-profit organizations. Participants may be current or newly-created institutions.
This year’s jury is composed of: Yana Buhrer Tavanier, co-founder of TimeHeroes, the platform for volunteering, Olga Kovgan, manager of the Cultural Guide program, Iva Taralezhkova, chairman of the Citizen Participation Forum, and Veselka Vatkova, director of Corporate Communications at VIVACOM.
Applications must be submitted by downloading and completing the entry form and sending it to email: [email protected]. The deadline for submitting the application is April 30, 2017. The results of the competition will be announced on June 23, 2017, at the Etar Ethnographic Museum, Gabrovo, at the Children’s Circle conference.
