Gil Shaham is one of the foremost violinists of our time. His flawless technique combined with his inimitable warmth and generosity of spirit has solidified his renown as an American master. The Grammy Award winner, also named Musical America’s “Instrumentalist of the Year,” is sought after throughout the world for concerto appearances with leading orchestras and conductors. Mr. Shaham regularly gives recitals and appears with ensembles on the world’s great concert stages and at the most prestigious festivals.
Mr. Shaham took part in the Music of America series supported by America for Bulgaria Foundation. A day before his concert, he organized a master class for students from the National Academy of Music. A charming first-person narrative can be found HERE.
The concert was a real pleasure and a real lesson in violin mastery. The finale was a stunning encore by Shaham, “Carmen Fantasy” by Sarasate, the violinist who has written to disk “Pablo de Sarasate. Virtuoso works for violin”. The audience in Bulgaria Hall not only remained breathless, but spontaneously stood up to applaud in awe and appreciation.
