The motto of this year’s spelling bee is “BeeWare online.” The contests will feature screenings of educational videos acquainting participants and attendees with some of the threats on social media and the Internet and giving them tips on staying safe online.
A Spelling Bee is a traditional American competition in which contestants spell an English word aloud and are eliminated for misspelling a word. The competition was first held in the United States in 1925 and has since grown in popularity. Today, spelling competitions are held in many countries worldwide and have been proven to be an effective, fun English-language teaching tool.
The Bulgarian National English Spelling Bee is organized by the CORPluS Foundation with support from the America for Bulgaria Foundation.
