Ulay in Bulgaria

Ulay, a rare talent who has deeply impacted the art world arrived in Bulgaria on April 27. Frank Uwe Laysiepen (Ulay) opened his first photographic exhibition in the country.

“I Other” tracks the artist’s creative career from the 1960s when he was a professional photographer in Amsterdam, through his relationship with Marina Abramović, as well as his new quests from the 1990s. The exhibition brings together photographs, drawings, aphorisms, video performances and… a live performance in which Ulay literally left a trace of himself in Sofia.

“I did it with deep conviction and self-control. Many people are afraid of being hurt – living in fear that this may happen. Not me.”

If you have a professional interest in art or if this is the first time you are hearing about the creator of the contemporary performance, Ulay’s exhibition is really not to be missed. You can visit it until May 31 at Vivacom Art Hall. Organized by the Musiz Foundation as part of the “Masters of Photography” project, it enjoys the support of America for Bulgaria Foundation.

HERE‘s what Ulay recorded especially for visitors at the opening of the show.
