Microalgae for high-value products
AgroBioInstitute
USD 83,000
This is an applied research program aimed at increasing the local capacity and knowledge of a group of Bulgarian researchers in the field of advanced microalgae research – one of the most novel and perspective research areas in the agribusiness sector.
A consortium of partners from 3 Bulgarian academic institutions will be built, and in collaboration with researchers from a premier U.S. research agency in agriculture, natural resources and life sciences - the Texas A&M’s AgriLife Research Program, will strive to develop and promote use of microalgae for production of high-value products for food, pharma or cosmetic industries, which can be used by small and medium enterprises for developing novel products.
The team will first use microalgae species that are well characterized, fast growing and have a history of safe use (Chlorella, Scenedesmus), as well as explore less known Bulgarian strains maintained at the Algal Collection of the Sofia University.
We are performing technical maintenance on our website and the project database will not be accessible until 4 pm today.
