It's certain that if you are asked who your favorite author is, you will answer at once. But what happens if you're asked who your favourite translator is? Well, yes. Translators are the people whose names remain unknown to the public but without whose efforts the beauty of the words of foreign writers will never reach us.
Recognizing the important role of translators, America for Bulgaria Foundation is for a seventh consecutive year supporting the Elizabeth Kostova Foundation (EKF) in the promotion of translations of American literature in Bulgaria and Bulgarian literature in America.
One of the most popular projects by the EKF is the annual Sozopol Fiction Seminars, which brings together in one place established and emerging authors from Bulgaria and the United States. About 300 writers and literature professionals have taken part in the project over the past 10 years. The 10th Sozopol Seminars will for the first time be dedicated to creative non-fiction, bringing together journalists, critics and essayists. The program will feature workshops, discussions and roundtables with acclaimed creative non-fiction authors from The New Yorker, The New York Times, the Ninth Letter, The New York Review of Books, N+1, and the Virginia Quarterly Review. Some of the confirmed guests include Elif Batuman, Donovan Hohn, Philip Graham, Paul Reyes and Benjamin Moser.
CapitaLiterature was founded as a sustainable international literary festival aiming to enrich the cultural life of Bulgaria and to expand the opportunities for the development of young Bulgarian writers. In 2017, CapitaLiterature will be held from 13 to 15 June.
We are performing technical maintenance on our website and the project database will not be accessible until 4 pm today.
