Through this project, ABF will continue its institutional support for the Bulgarian Food Bank (BFB) and will back the food bank’s expansion in the North-West (Mezdra) and Varna region. BFB is the first and only food bank in the country. In its five years of existence, BFB has served as an efficient tool for minimizing food waste, reducing hunger, and mobilizing local resources and partnerships to support a growing number of people in need. BFB is an independent certified food bank, established in 2012 and working toward partnering with the food industry and social welfare organizations in order to save and share food resources. In 2017, BFB reached out to 80 communities (30 000 Bulgarians) in need, rescuing almost 300 tons of food.
