The mission of the Student Institute in Mathematics and Informatics (SIMI) is to promote inquiry-based learning among high school students (8th–12th grade). Through the program, students work on scientific projects under the mentorship of mathematics and informatics teachers, university professors, and leading Bulgarian scientists and partake in two annual conferences where participants present their work as well as a three-week summer science institute where students develop scientific projects. Two students are selected to represent Bulgaria in the six-week Research Science Institute at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
