This grant funds the initial research and support necessary to ascertain whether a “Teach for America”-type program could succeed in Bulgaria. This includs support from Teach for All staff in the United States, knowledge exchange, field-research, focus groups, and the development of a business plan. Teach for All currently has programs in nine countries throughout the world. It was started in the United States 20 years ago, where it has 35,000 applicants each year. In Bulgaria, the program will aim to connect highly motivated Bulgarian graduates from all fields of studies with disadvantaged and struggling schools throughout Bulgaria. In other countries where the program has been implemented, participants have had a demonstrable impact on student performance and achievement.
