Innovation Academy is an entrepreneurship competition for teams of university students from across Bulgaria. This grant will support the eight edition of the annual 48-hour hackathon based on principles developed by the innovation department at Stanford d.school. University students submit their startup ideas several months prior to the competition. Afterward, the short-listed teams work on their projects with the help of mentors. Finally, they pitch their ideas in front of a jury consisting of respected scholars, entrepreneurs, and NGO leaders. The initiative is the largest public-private partnership of its kind uniting two European Union institutions (the European Investment Bank and EU Commission), 15 universities, and more than 30 representatives from the NGO, business, and media.
