This grant supports the creation of a transitional center for previously institutionalized youth in Berkovitsa. The center will provide a short-term, residential, work/study program for previously institutionalized youth where they will learn life, social, and vocational skills needed to achieve independent living. The students will be assisted in locating appropriate housing and employment upon completion of their program. The program goal is for full integration of all participants into normal societal and work settings. It is envisioned that the majority of young men participating in the program will graduate in 12 months—however, for others that were previously in homes for handicapped youth, the program may be extended to 18 months.
