Once every five years, in August, Koprivshtitsa hosts a large international folklore event – the Koprivshtitsa National Folklore Assembly. The Assembly’s 12th edition is on August 5–7 this year. Singers, dancers, musicians, and craftsmen as well as many spectators gather for a celebration of authentic Bulgarian folklore. Over 5,000 participants from all over Bulgaria and the world as well as over 25,000 tourists attend the event. The festival is on UNESCO’s list of good practices for intangible cultural heritage presentation and transmission.
