For the past ten years, a network of grassroots NGOs has hosted an annual camp for gifted Roma high school students. This camp (Forward Together) provides motivational games and lessons and hosts successful Roma professionals in an effort to raise the self-esteem of participants, acquaint them with different career options, and familiarize them with their history and unique place in Bulgaria. Camp alumni have also acted as young leaders for the camp, thereby strengthening leadership skills and encouraging civic participation. This program will expand the camps regionally and will build on an existing informal network of camp alumni to create a professional network, similar to professional networks in the US and UK, which have proved instrumental in increasing the number of minority professionals in the private sector.
