Romani Studies Center of Excellence

BGN 27,600
This grant supports the development and maintenance of a specialized library and archive created by Studii Romani and housed at the Ethnographical Institute and Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The grant supports the library through the acquisition of new books, periodicals, and films, maintenance of the library’s website, and mentoring and modest funding for four graduate fellows to conduct field research on Romani-related subjects. The project also envisions library presentations for 40 school pupils in Sofia. The main goal of the Center is to institutionalize the field of “Roma studies” within mainstream academia and to help overcome prevailing negative stereotypes by positioning factual scholarship on Roma culture and history within the framework of mainstream academia.
We are performing technical maintenance on our website and the project database will not be accessible until 4 pm today.
