“Drom Dromendar” was first issued in September 1995 and is one of Bulgaria’s leading Roma news publications. The paper is distributed nationally, with both NGOs as well as private individuals subscribing. It acts as a conduit of information regarding Roma events and also as a watchdog for programs implemented on behalf of the Roma. Subscribers use the paper to learn about programs, to share best practices, and to distribute information on events. The paper also provides information regarding policies and governmental initiatives, and program or funding opportunities. By publishing and sharing information, it helps to build a more cohesive group of Roma activists. Most importantly perhaps, the paper acts as a monitor and observer of Roma programs and helps maintain a higher level of quality in the field.
