Caritas-Ruse is working with 60 disadvantaged children in three schools to help them bridge the transition from the 3rd-5th grade. The program also includes 50 indirect beneficiaries—children and youth that are not at risk, but who involved in activities and volunteering to support direct beneficiaries. Program activities include individual and small group tutorials by volunteers and professional educators to help children overcome learning deficiencies. Work with parents and monthly parent meetings are an important part of the program. Activities will also be organized in the summer, including an art club, and eco-club, and sports activities in order to keep children engaged in school. In addition to these activities, a week-long summer school will be held each summer to promote educational and social goals. Success will be measured by the number that successfully continue from grade to grade and each child’s academic improvement.
