The project envisions the establishment of a Forestry and Bio-resources Extension Service at the University of Forestry in Sofia modeled after the US extension service. using an American model. In the United States, extension is the link connecting the fruits of research and education to practical application at the private farm level. Thanks to the project, trained consultants will provide a wide range of services to non-state owners of forests in Bulgaria. Among the main objectives of the program is to improve the technical and managerial capacity of the Bulgarian forest industry as well as help the Bulgarian bio-economy business find effective solutions to potential forestry management and technological problems. The idea is to transfer the experience and best practice of the Oregon State University in Bulgaria, which has long experience and a well-functioning extension service. Initially the focus will be on the forestry sector, but the ambition is to cover all areas related to biological resources.
