Let’s Successfully Finish the 8th grade

Svetlina - Samokov was established by teachers in the “Neofit Rilski” school. They are working to keep more of their Roma children in school and to give them the tools they need to succeed. They will work with 6th and 8th grade students and drop-outs to return them to school and give them the support they need to successfully complete junior high. This includes afterschool activities as well as community work and work with parents. Specific activities include tutorials in Bulgarian language and mathematics, consulting and therapy, local excursions and weekend activities, job mediation for participants that successfully complete the 8th grade, counseling, motivation, and monitoring of student progress into local high schools, parent seminars, and a summer integration camp for 40 students. Success will be measured by the number of participants that graduate, the number that successfully enroll in high school, and in certain cases the number that the team helps connect with employment opportunities.
