The project targets the Western gate of Roman Serdika, an important monument from Bulgaria’s past. The gate located in the center of the city has been in a paltry condition, so the grant will allow for the restoration of this significant historical site by a group of 250 volunteers, promoting volunteerism and citizens’ interest in preserving Bulgaria’s cultural heritage. At the same time, the project will raise awareness of the problems facing preservation of historical monuments in the country and will encourage public institutions to claim responsibility and take action.
