The Students Institute in Mathematics and Informatics (SIMI) has a successful track record of attracting and motivating Bulgarian high school students to engage in inquiry-based learning in the fields of mathеmatics and informatics by involving them in an intensive year-round program. Under the mentorship of scientists, university professors and teachers, students develop scientific projects in the course of one academic year. Students report their progress and defend their results and findings at regular scientific conferences. A three-week summer research school gives students the opportunity to engage in intensive workshops and to collaborate with their mentors and teams on the scientific projects. SIMI also selects two students to represent Bulgaria at the prestigious six-week Research Science Institute at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
