D-3 Navigators has identified children within Blagoevgrad’s Roma quarter that are outside the system and not currently sending their children to kindergarten, mainly for financial reasons. They have created a daycare center next to the Roma quarter and are providing half day services for 20 children. The program will provide an interesting and positive classroom experience and will incorporate games, music, art, etc. to help children develop social and educational competencies needed for kindergarten and the first grade. The team will also work to engage parents in their child’s education and will help remove some barriers to participation such as lack of adequate shoes and clothing. Success will be gauged according to the number of marginalized children they enroll in the preparatory year of kindergarten or first grade.
