The grant strengthens international collaboration between Bulgarian and American scholars in archeology and promotes use of ground breaking analytical techniques that advance the scientific study of the human past. Support also goes to projects aimed at important site preservation, artifact restoration and museums enhancement. In 2011 five projects were approved for funding by ABF Archeological Advisory Committee with the Field Museum in Chicago, to wit: Rock-cut Sanctuaries in the Eastern Rhodope Mountains: the Glouchite Kamani Cult Complex, by Dr. Georgi Nekhrizov and Dr. Lynn E. Roller; Analyzing the Cutting Edge: Stylistic and Functional Study of Lithic and Bronze Tools from the Later Prehistory in Eastern Balkans, by Dr. Ivan Gatsov and Dr. Marvin Kay; Prehistoric Flint Sourcing: Field Survey and Laboratory Analyses, by Dr. Maria Gurova and Dr. Dusan Boric; Preservation and Enhancement of the Antiquity Collection of Museum of History in town of Kazanlak; Bishop’s Residence in the town of Cherven from the Late Middle Ages: Archaeology, Education and Tourism, by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nikolay Nenov.
