Amala-R has been working on desegregation programs for a decade, and despite a number of successes, significant needs still exist at the early levels. To increase understanding of the importance of early education and to increase the number of Roma parents living in Bukovluk that send their children to kindergartens and schools in Pleven, where improved educational opportunities are provided, they will utilize mediators to both work with families and to accompany and bus children to school. Workbooks and school materials will be also awarded to first graders, as an added incentive as they embark on their first school year.
