“Roma health scholarship program – Leadership in health: a generation of professionals in the healthcare system”
Open Society Institute – Sofia
BGN 215,860
This program began in 2009 in response to serious health problems in the Roma community as well as a lack of Roma representation in the health care sector. Since this is an ongoing program, the Roma Education Fund, OSI Budapest, and OSI Sofia will continue to support 95 of the program’s prior beneficiaries, who are in the process of completing their education. The America for Bulgaria Foundation will sponsor a new cadre of 40 participants. The program contains four components: 1) scholarships for medical students and nurses as well as resident doctors, which cover tuition fees and students’ living expenses, 2) mentorship for participants, provided by resident doctors and university professors, 3) motivational training for participants, and 4) public presentation of the program. Selection of beneficiaries is based on their academic merit, extracurricular activities and engagement, leadership potential, and motivation/demonstrated interest in working with Roma communities.
We are performing technical maintenance on our website and the project database will not be accessible until 4 pm today.
