The Wild World of the Eastern Rhodopes
New Thracian Gold - Bulgaria Foundation
BGN 63,480
The main objective of the project is to preserve the outstanding wild nature and ecosystems in one of the most abundant biodiversity hot spots in Europe – the Eastern Rhodopes and support the candidacy of the area for becoming one of the ten magnificent wildlife and wilderness areas of international importance in Europe under the Rewilding Europe initiative. This will hopefully contribute to putting Bulgaria on the European map for wildlife tourism and will support small scale tourism businesses in the region by reaping economic benefits from the wildlife. The project envisages the reintroduction of a large globally endangered grazing species in the area - the European bison, aimed at helping keep the open mosaic-like landscape of the region thus leaving room for the other representatives of the unique wild world of the Eastern Rhodopes (birds, reptiles, insects, flowers, plants, herbs, etc.)
We are performing technical maintenance on our website and the project database will not be accessible until 4 pm today.
