Institute of International Education

USD 2,320,200

The fifth round of the Bulgarian Young Leaders Program (BYLP) will start in September 2013 and will involve 121 participants in 4 components: 1) Summer Entrepreneurship Program (SEP): The flagship of BYLP will provide 30 talented undergraduate and graduate students with five weeks of training in entrepreneurship and leadership development in the United States in the summer of 2014. 2) Junior Justice Professionals’ Training Program (JJPTP): The program will be conducted with a group of 21 young justice professionals – 7 prosecutors, 7 judges, and 7 lawyers – and will provide them with a short-term, U.S.-based professional training experience. The group will visit four cities, each tied to a specific training module. 3) Education Leaders’ Training Program (ELTP): This component will involve 20 secondary school teachers. The educators will travel to the U.S. for a dynamic three-week training program, including academic sessions, followed by a practicum at NYC schools. 4) Principals Training Program (PTP): This year for the first time, we are adding a component on developing principals in Bulgaria’s public school system. We plan to involve 50 principals from around the country in two program stages: 1) a one-week workshop in Bulgaria for 50 selected participants in the Spring of 2014 and 2) an exchange program in the United States for the 10 most proactive principals out of the 50 in the Fall of 2014. The purpose of the program is to identify and develop university students, young civil service professionals, and secondary school educators in Bulgaria who have the potential to assume positions of leadership and contribute to the prosperity of country.
