It has been four years now that ABF has been supporting the Elizabeth Kostova Foundation (EKF). EKF’s activities are by far the only and most successful initiative to popularize translation in English and Bulgarian and to promote Bulgarian literature. EKF approached ABF for a new grant to fund the foundation’s activities in 2014-2016. Part of the program includes: BG Fiction NYghts (Reunion Readings & Bulgarian Books Launches), US; Translation Scheme: Contemporary Bulgarian Novel in English (in 2014 “Nine Rabbits” by Virginia Zaharieva will be published by Open Letter Books Publishing House, Rochester, NY); Translators Atelier, Sofia – (training for fine literary translators providing three scholarships that cover the tuition fee); Krustan Dyankov Translation Award, BG, Sofia (the prize is given annually for outstanding translation of a work of contemporary literary fiction from English to Bulgarian) etc.
