Metropolitan Opera Live 2016 – 2017

This grant is to support a third season of Metropolitan Opera Live to be broadcasted in Sofia. It fits one of the key priorities of ABF’s Arts and Culture strategy: to introduce and popularize quality American art to the Bulgarian audience.

The HD live broadcasts from Metropolitan Opera in New York have already been taking place in 65 countries throughout the world in over 3000 theaters and until 2 years ago they have never been shown in Bulgaria. The season in 2016/17 includes 10 live broadcasts from New York to one of the halls of Cinema City Sofia on several Saturdays and 5 preliminary announced encores to be screened during weekdays.

The season 2016/17 features a production with the Bulgarian young star soprano Sonya Yoncheva. She will take part in the legendary and very demanding role of Violetta in Verdi’s “La Traviata”.
