The Path of Purpose: Poet Lyubomira Videva’s Journey to Giving

When Lyubomira Videva launched her quirky gift brand, kompoti.bg, at the pandemic’s outset, she didn’t just want to sell mugs or tote bags—she wanted to sell hope. Each jar-packaged item, labeled with bold, heartfelt messages, carried more than just a product; it carried a meal for an elderly person in Bulgaria’s forgotten Northwest. This wasn’t marketing—it was a mission.

For Lyubomira, the choice to focus on elderly people wasn’t random. She had grown up without close relationships with her grandparents and always felt the absence of that connection. As she delved deeper into social causes, she realized how overlooked the elderly are in charitable giving. “We tend to focus on children or animals,” she says, “but our elderly deserve dignity and care, especially in their final years. Providing a meal felt like the least we could do.”

BCause, a leading organization dedicated to promoting giving and supporting donors in Bulgaria, played a pivotal role in turning Lyubomira’s vision into reality. When she first approached the foundation, she only knew she wanted her business to support a cause—what that cause should be and how to ensure her efforts had maximum impact were still unclear. The BCause team helped her identify the Our Parents Fund as the perfect fit, addressing a pressing but under-supported need. They guided her through the logistics, ensuring her contributions reached elderly people in Northwestern Bulgaria efficiently and effectively. Today, BCause offers the same support to businesses across Bulgaria, helping them align their goals with impactful causes and enabling sustainable philanthropy.

Lyubomira’s brand, kompoti.bg, quickly gained traction. Customers loved the idea of buying gifts with a cause, knowing their purchases had a direct impact. Lyubomira made it her mission to encourage other businesses to adopt similar models, blending commerce and compassion. However, running the brand solo proved challenging. Managing accounting, marketing, logistics, and customer relations alone, especially during a pandemic, began to take its toll. Despite her passion, she felt burned out.

In 2023, Lyubomira made the difficult decision to sell kompoti.bg. For her, this was not a retreat but a redirection. The brand’s new owner, Alpi Investment, agreed to maintain its mission, allowing Lyubomira to focus on her next chapter: joining the BCause Foundation as a marketing and donor services expert.

At BCause, Lyubomira channels her passion for creative storytelling into campaigns that inspire people to support meaningful causes. Building on her experience with kompoti.bg, she continues to innovate in “marketing with a cause,” crafting impactful strategies that resonate with donors and beneficiaries alike. Her work promotes initiatives like Giving Tuesday and the Our Parents Fund, while her poetry sales directly support programs aiding survivors of domestic violence, a cause deeply personal to her. This personal connection to her work is what sets Lyubomira apart. “Giving has to align with your values and story,” she says. Her own experiences—growing up in a household impacted by domestic violence and witnessing her mother’s resilience—fuel her commitment to making a difference. Whether it’s through creative campaigns or corporate volunteer programs, she helps people see giving as not just an act of charity but as a bridge to connection, tolerance, and understanding.
