Association of European Journalists – Bulgaria

The Association of European Journalists-Bulgaria (AEJ-Bulgaria) is a non-profit association, established in 2010. It is a professional community of journalists, and a member of the International Association of European Journalists (www.aej.org), which brings together journalists from more than 20 European countries. AEJ is independent, international association, where journalists are members of their respective national section. The organization supports critical journalism in the course of European integration and defends the freedom of speech. AEJ gives journalists the opportunity to be part of professional and social network. The association is an official Observer in the Council of Europe’s Media Steering Committee.

In 2018, with the support of America for Bulgaria Foundation, and in partnership with Fulbright Bulgaria, AEJ launched a high school media literacy program in 30 high schools across Bulgaria. The Media Literacy in the Classroom initiative aims to improve students’ skills to critically assess and interpret news and information. Journalism clubs and an online school media were established in high schools around the country in order to produce journalistic content that feeds into the ScoolMedia national online media platform: http://scoolmedia.com/en/. The program also provided media literacy classes to a wider group of students who were not involved in the journalistic clubs to equip them with the necessary skills to become enlightened media readers who critically assess, interpret, and analyze information.
