Agriturismo in Bulgaria? ABF, Italian Embassy & Partners Announce New RFP

The America for Bulgaria Foundation announces a request for proposals (RFP) for the development of rural tourism in Northern Bulgaria. The RFP is held in partnership with the Embassy of Italy in Bulgaria, the Italian Trade Agency, LocalFood.bg/Pendara Foundation, Devetaki Plateau Association, and Traventuria.

The RFP builds on the Foundation’s efforts to support economic growth, community development, and tradition preservation in the Bulgarian Northwest and the Danube River Valley and help establish these regions as attractive tourist destinations.

Italy is one of the best known destinations for agriturismo, or rural tourism, in Europe, attracting millions of tourists from around the world each year. Therefore, the Foundation is pleased to partner in this RFP with the Italian Embassy in Bulgaria, the Italian Trade Agency, and several other organizations with extensive experience in the field.

The approved projects will receive up to 25,000 levs in funding for activities attracting tourists and developing local economies, such as farm visits and experiences, food and crafts tours, culinary demonstrations, and farmers’ markets with local products, among others. They will also benefit from the experience and knowledge of our partner organizations in the field of rural tourism.

The call is open to applicants from across the country, but project proposals must offer tourist products and services in at least one of the following areas in Northern Bulgaria: Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Lovech, Pleven, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Targovishte, Razgrad, Shumen, Silistra, and Dobrich.

The deadline for submitting applications is February 15, 2022. More information (in Bulgarian) can be found on the RFP webpage: https://us4bg.org/bg/rfp-tur-agritourism-2022/

An explanatory webinar will be held on January 19 and livestreamed on the Foundation’s Facebook page.
