This grant will support the A to JazZ Festival in 2018. Starting as a small project with ABF support in 2011, over the years, the festival has gained popularity, and today it is one of the most anticipated musical events in Sofia, one that showcases the best of global jazz talent and that has attracted 100,000+ strong audience to date. Celebrated musicians such as Christian McBride, Robert Glasper, Kenny Garrett, Roy Hargrove, Branford Marsalis, Kurt Elling, Richard Bona, Michel Camilo, Dianne Reeves, Jose James, Dirty Loops, Nik West, and many others have performed at the festival. The 2018 edition of A to JazZ will gather together an amazing cast of up-and-coming and established names in jazz. Headliners include five-time Grammy winner Lalah Hathaway, the Grammy-nominated rising star of New York Jazzmeia Horn, and Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles (Cory Henry is the winner of two Grammy awards). The festival will also feature a star lineup of Bulgarian artists such as Militsa Gladnishka with Misho Yosifov Sextet, the GloBalKan ethno-jazz project, the electro-soul innovator Trombobby, Lili Ilieva, one of the most promising Bulgarian jazz singers, together with the Minimum Quartet, and the Bulgarian-American soul-funk formation Two Cities One World.
