Metropolitan Opera Live 2018/19 and World Theater in Sofia 2019

This grant is to support the fifth season of Metropolitan Opera Live, to be broadcast in Sofia, with some of the performances shown in Varna and Plovdiv as well. A highlight of the 2018/19 season is the return of the opera diva Anna Netrebko, making her debut in two of the most demanding roles for a soprano—Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida and Fracesco Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur. Other highlights of the season feature a mix of new productions of classical titles (Samson et Dalila, La Traviata, Carmen, and others) alongside modern and contemporary operas such as Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmelites and Nico Muhly’s operatic version of Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller Marnie. A portion of the grant will be used for organizing the World Theater in Sofia program during the 2019 Varna Summer International Theater Festival.
