The Pleven Community Fund Chitaliste is expanding a pilot program previously financed by the OAK Foundation through the Tulip Foundation. The organization worked in cooperation with 5 chitalishta (cultural centers) to conduct tutorials and activities with Roma village children to re-engage them in school and to prevent drop-outs. The Fund also works closely with parents and creates local councils to solve problems specific to the communities in densely Roma populated areas. This year, they plan to expand the program to 150 Roma children and include 10 villages in the Pleven region. The program will also add a component that will help 50 Roma youth connect with employment opportunities.
