Innovation Academy is an entrepreneurship competition for teams of university students from across Bulgaria. This grant will support the seventh edition of the annual 48-hour hackathon based on principles developed by the innovation department at Stanford d.school. Students from universities with diverse profiles submit their startup ideas a couple of months prior to the actual competition. Afterward, the short-listed teams work on their projects with the help of mentors. Finally, they pitch their ideas in front of a jury consisting of respected scholars, entrepreneurs, and NGO leaders. The winning team receives a BGN 10,000 award for the development of their project. The initiative is the largest public-private partnership of its kind uniting two European institutions (the European Investment Bank and EU Commission), 14 universities, Sofia Municipality, 20 representatives from the NGO and business communities, and 19 media outlets.
