The High School of Mathematics in Rousse Presented a New Biochemistry Lab Center

The High School of Mathematics in Ruse just opened a new biochemistry lab center with the support of ‘Schools of the Future’ – a program of America for Bulgaria Foundation (ABF). Over BGN 80,000 has been invested in the center that will provide talented students from Bulgaria’s largest Danube city with access to the newest educational technologies in natural sciences.

More than 6 months were needed for the center’s construction. 75% (BGN 60,000) of the budget needed was donated by ABF under its ‘Schools of the Future’ Program. The Ruse-based high-school managed to raise the remaining over BGN 20,000 by encouraging giving from parents, the school board and the alumni community.

The new facility allows for full digitalization of research and project data, as well as live video connection to other schools in the country. And teachers and students from Ruse are already planning for joint video conference lessons and real-time projects with their peers from Varna’s High School of Mathematics that has a similar center.

The high school in Ruse is among the 16 schools in Bulgaria that have a special leadership position: an Educational Technology Director. There are 20 such specialists in the country, all of them trained in the University of Columbia with the support of the America for Bulgaria Foundation.

In 2017 23 schools all over Bulgaria are expected to open their new high-tech educational centers under the ‘Schools of the Future’ Program. Since its creation in 2009 the program has supported a total of 68 Bulgarian schools with a total investment of BGN 7.8 million thus providing access to modern education to over 60,000 students.
