Education and the professions of the future – these are top priorities of America for Bulgaria Foundation. Since 2010, the Foundation has supported and funded the preparation and participation of Bulgarian teams in Informatics, Math, Linguistics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Astronomy in International Olympiads and competitions.
Bulgaria can be rightly proud of the success of all its teams and participants in the science Olympiads! Linguistics, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology – Bulgarian competitors literally “reaped” the medals! We are amazed by the kids’ intellectual and scientific potential.
Here is the impressive outcome of this exciting season:
Linguistics: Three gold medals, one silver, three bronze and honorary diplomas for our representatives at the 15th International Olympiad in Linguistics. The Bulgarian Olympiad Team of Linguistics returned from Dublin, Ireland with a total of 8 awards from the world’s largest competition for high school students. The competition was attended by 160 contestants from 27 countries around the world.
Informatics: One gold medal and three bronze medals for our team. Young talents competed along with participants from 83 countries in the 29th International Olympiad, which took place from July 28 to August 4 in Tehran, Iran. With these awards, we remain 5th in the cumulative ranking (for all years), and this year our team joined Club 100, which means the number of medals received by Bulgarian competitors now exceeds 100. Only four other countries have achieved this success. Encho Mishinev has represented Bulgaria successfully in a series of international Olympiads and is 7th in the current ranking. His recent gold medal, along with his previous achievements, put him in the prestigious 18th place among the top computer scientists of all time.
Physics: Our five Olympiad physics competitors brought back medals from Indonesia. Boyko Borisov won a silver medal in astronomy and astrophysics. Our team won another 4 bronze medals in competition with the 400 best physicists in the world.
Mathematics: all six competitors are previous winners in the natural sciences. 614 students from 112 countries solved three math problems during the 58th International Math Olympiad from July 13 to 23, 2017 in Rio de Janeiro. The Bulgarian team performed extremely well, and again, our six national team players returned with medals – 4 silver and 2 bronze! In the team rankings, Bulgaria ranks 18th in worldwide and 4th among EU member states.
Chemistry: The Olympiad team boasted high achievements at the International Olympiad from July 6 to 14 in Nakon Pathom, Thailand. Bulgarians faced competition from 77 other countries with all four Olympians returning with medals – one gold and three bronze!
Biology: The 28th International Biology Olympiad in Coventry, UK, also ended with great success for Bulgaria! Our team returned with a gold, silver and bronze medal! This year, 241 students from 68 countries competed.
