Seventeen months after the groundbreaking ceremony the new America for Bulgaria Student Center opened on the campus of the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG). Members of AUBG Board of Trustees, representatives of America for Bulgaria Foundation (ABF), representatives of the Embassy of the U.S. Embassy, the Minister of Education, the mayor of Blagoevgrad, many students, and guests attended the dedication ceremony on October 19, 2012. The center is named after America for Bulgaria Foundation in recognition of the generous $8 million support provided by ABF to the construction of the $16 million facility.
The modern America for Bulgaria Student Center provides exceptional environment to the students for learning and development that will further stimulate their high academic achievements. The new building hosts a theater hall with 350 seats, equipped with top-notch stage technology, dressing rooms and a café with an outdoor terrace overlooking campus. A modern open space food court will let the students to choose from different cuisines while witnessing the process of food preparation. One of the most attractive facilities is the world-class multi-purpose sports hall, the first one of its kind in Bulgaria, with an elevated running track and fitted with adjustable stands seating for 400 visitors. The students immediately had the opportunity to play basketball at the new sports hall. Some of the facilities will be accessible for the general public in Blagoevgrad.
