Foundations, companies, sole proprietors and individuals made donations in the total amount of BGN 96,137,349 in 2016 according to data from the Annual Analysis of Trends in Charity and Corporate Social Responsibility in Bulgaria by the Bulgarian Donors Forum, prepared with the support of America for Bulgaria Foundation and Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
In 2016, individuals donated over BGN 8.5 million, which is up by around 2 million or 33% since last year.
This is the good news. The bad news is that overall, there has been a decrease of the total amount of donations by 11% or almost BGN 12 million in absolute value compared to 2015. The trend of decline started in 2012, when donations amounted to BGN 137,514,822.
For the third consecutive year, foundations top the donors’ list with BGN 52.8 million or 55% of the total, notwithstanding a drop of BGN 2 million. In 2016, America for Bulgaria Foundation once again made the biggest contribution among fellow foundations with nearly BGN 30 million in grants.
Companies were the second-biggest donors in 2016 with BGN 34.1 million. This is down 26% (about BGN 12 mln). Almost the same number of companies declared having made donations in 2016 and 2015.
