‘Young virtuosos’ brought together in Sofia a record number of 155 participants from 35 countries

The 13th “Young Virtuosos” international competition was held from March 30 to April 8 under the honorary patronage of the Mayor of Sofia Municipality, Mrs Yordanka Fandukova.A total of 155 “Young Virtuosos” from 35 countries took part, including from Austria, Azerbajian, the United Kingdom, Germany, Georgia, Greece, Macedonia, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, the United States, Slovenia, Serbia, South Korea, Japan and Bulgaria.This year, the young musical hopefuls competed in the categories violin, violoncello, flute and clarinet, and were divided into four age groups – respectively, up to the ages of 11, 15, 19 and 26.

Some of the most influential musicians and teachers in the world came to Bulgaria specially to judge the contest. All of this put the “Young Virtuosos” in the first rank of the leading European musical competitions.

The 84,600 leva prize money from the America for Bulgaria Foundation was accompanied with several special awards, including the Special Award of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY), of which the “Young Virtuosos” international competition is a member. Award-winner will have the amazing chance and opportunity to conquer the international stage by taking part in series of concerts organized by the association in all European capitals.

A formal awards ceremony and a gala concert by the “Young Virtuosos” 2017 laureates was held on April 8 in the concert hall of the Lyubomir Pipkov National Music School. At the event, the winners of all the special awards in the competition were chosen, you can find them HERE.
