Working in the nonprofit sector is not a hobby. Whether we call it a nonprofit, nongovernmental, or civil society organization, working in this arena is a professional occupation requiring expertise and continuous professional development just like any other professional position in the private or public sector. NGOs often deal with some of society’s most difficult issues. This type of work is a profession and a passion, and most importantly, it requires dedication.

ABF’s longest-serving director and a lifelong friend to Bulgaria, Marshall Lee Miller was awarded the Badge of Honor St. Kliment of Ohrid by Sofia University.

In May, ABF representatives and partners traveled to Belene in the company of camp survivors Khalil Rasim and Tsvetana Dzhermanova.

Through her music as well as her journalistic texts and other forms of civic engagement, over the years Ms. Pendatchanska has made known her strong views in support of democratic freedoms and justice.

A fourth edition of the United With Ukraine job fair took place on April 9 at Varna’s Palace of Culture and Sports, where tens of American and Bulgarian employers gathered to meet with refugees from Ukraine residing in the port city.

The America for Bulgaria Foundation is launching a new fellowship program in journalism titled Media E:Volution. Over nine months, fellows will have the opportunity to work at two Bulgarian media organizations, gaining professional experience and engaging in an exchange of ideas.

The America for Bulgaria Foundation will fund 20 projects for the development of rural tourism as part of its Developing Agritourism in Northern Bulgaria request for proposals (RFP). The RFP attracted considerable interest, with a total of 356 submitted applications.

Daycare for children aged 4–12 years, placement for high school and university students, transportation from the border, orientation and translation, assistance with finding accommodation, and career events are just a few of the services partnering organizations provide.

US and Bulgarian partners have united to provide emergency assistance to individuals and families displaced from Ukraine by the war and in need of support. This #UnitedWithUkraine platform for assistance will be updated regularly and contribute to Bulgaria’s overall humanitarian efforts for Ukraine. See the video address for the March 10 platform launch.
